Happy New Year NOW!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

ny

So we are one day away from the last  month of the year, and o my goodness hasn’t it been one. This year has been full, unexpected, crazy, you got an event I got a word to describe it. It’s crazy so much stuff went down this year I would have never expected. I went to the zoo in Berlin, met John Legend, Megan B chopped off ALL her hair, I hosted my first party and best of all we developed Lipstick Mixtapes. Whoa! and that’s not all   the  bad went down too, I got a flat tire on the side of the road this weekend (thanks Drew and Steve), Micheal Jackson died, my cousin went back to prison, and the recession is still hitting hard. But in spite of it all God has been a fence around me everyday. I am so thankful for all that has happened and even some things that haven’t happen. We never know just how our day is going to go let alone our year. It is filled with so many  expected and unexpected turns. I’m coming to learn that It really is what it is, and i just hope that all the cards will fall in my favor. As I  celebrate the ending as I welcome what is new, I hope that this year will go down as my best year yet.  I encourage everybody  if you haven’t already done something you want to do go for something, do something if it impacts no one else but you, you did it and that should make it all worth it.

Trend Report!!!

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

I’m seeing them more and more and I think I’m starting to love this lil trend here with thigh highs as outer wear!!! Pay attention they’re everywhere right now. I like the more low key understated sexy way of wearing them over the avant garde though.

Interview with Tippi Shorter!!!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Our next industry interview comes from the AMAZING  hairstylist Tippi Shorter. I know all of you reading this already recognize the name and are as excited as we are,  but for the other 1% of you that don’t know…. she has probably styled your favorite celebrity and video Rihanna, Beyonce, Mary, you name it shes done it, but don’t call her a celebrity hairstylist! She really needs no introduction. Ladies and gentlemen…..

TippiShorter

Meagan B: How did you get your “foot in the door” as a respected hair stylist? Was there a particular “big break”? Are you signed to an agency?

Tippi Shorter: I’m not really sure when I became a “respected” hairstylist, but, I had a salon downtown nyc and did a lot of editorial shoots to promote by business. My name grew from that and soon after, I started working with celebs.

MB: On your web site you say that you’re not a “celebrity hair stylist” but rather a hair stylist that works with celebrities. Do you think the term “celebrity hair stylist” is over rated? How often are you in the salon?

TS: I do, I think people consider themselves the celebrity instead of the clients they work with. I haven’t been in a salon in almost 5 years. I am planning on going to a salon maybe once or twice a month.

MB: How important do you think hair school is for someone with aspirations of having a celebrity clientele?

TS: If you don’t know anything, you can do anything. I suggest to get as much education as you can, because you will never know what you will be asked to do. Its not all just cutting and curling.

MB: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

TS: Reading my name in magazines or meeting people who have been inspired by something that I have done.

MB: What other areas of the hair industry are you apart of? (ie. Broadway, movies, classes?)

TS: I am a spokesperson for PANTENE, AVON, CLAIROL and OJON. I have yet to work on a film.

MB: Who are your hair icons and influences? Is there anyone that you would like to style that you haven’t? (alive or not)

TS: I don’t have specific people as icons, but I have always loved big beautiful styles from the 70’s. I use to have a list of people, but I’m happy to say that at this point, I have worked with most of them.

MB: What hair products are you “addicted” to at the moment?

TS: I love Pantene relaxed and natural breakage defense, ojon rub-out dry shampoo, bed head stick

MB: What is your opinion on the “good vs bad hair” issue and in your opinion, what’s the most important thing for ethnic women to know about their hair?

TS: My position has always been good hair is healthy hair.

MB What’s next for Tippi Shorter?

TS: I have a hair extension line called GET GORGEOUS HAIR and I might start mixing some ideas together for a product line soon.

MB: Are there any hair trends in hair on the rise that you can tell our readers about that they may not see coming?

TS: I wish I could, hair has gotten a little boring lately, everyone was long now everyone is short. I hope to see lots of color to give some variety.
