I love movies, scary, drama, comedy, indie but my favorite movies are period pieces. I recently rented Les Miserables which is based off historic moments from the 1800′s. I loved the makeup looks, the costumes, the wigs and the singing wasn’t bad! 

I get  excited and  drawn to these types of  movies because of the era represented whether  it be  historical or  just the attention to  detail and styles that were  prominent at that time. Movies like Hunger Games in which the time is futuristic is really cool because that allows for freedom to create what hasn’t happened yet, it  just blows my mind.

Famous Italian cinema  La Dolce Vita  was a film where  I believe cat eyeliner and  pout lip originated ! Italian women had it going on. These movies  make me feel so  inspired because not only  do they tell a  great story but they show you what people looked liked during a certain time period and even more they offer you a glimpse into the  vivid imagination of creative people such as ourselves. So if your a makeup artist or just a movie addict, take the time and  pay attention  to the detail and appearances of some of the characters in your favorite movie, it’ll make you look at movies in a new way!

I’m sure you want to know what colors I used but these looks are from a few months ago so I will do my best at remembering but I’m sure you can find something similar to what you see me wearing.

MAKEUP, FASHION, GLAMOUR

I had the pleasure of meeting a few incredible ladies at last month’s Javen Album Release Concert at Faith World Church. Damita Haddon, Deleon Richards-Sheffield , and La Rue Howard to name a few. Lipstick Mixtapes is all about makeup, fashion and glamour so I had to ask the ladies what are some of their favorite beauty products, trends in fashion and how they stay glamorous while singing and praising on stage!

Damita Haddon says she never really sweats much while on stage, and she prefers a natural makeup look. Coloring in her eyebrows  with a brow pencil is a must and blush on her cheeks to add pop is necessary.
Quick Tip from Damita is to always moisturize. On her skin she uses African shea butter at night and in the morning; she says this helps to preserve the youthful look of the skin!

Giel
With her Eclectic vibe of Christian music it was a delight to talk with Giel. Her sound is truly God given and so refreshing with a sound that you can ride to and worship all at the same time!
Giel plays the guitar so she is a fan of Gel Nails with an American Manicure, or a clear nail polish. Her go to products are by a European brand called Kiko cosmetics she says she loves their eyeliner pencil and it last forever!

Senior Pastor and worship leader Kaci Stewart uplifted me so much with her encouraging words about letting God make you over and finding your true beauty in His presence.
“A responsibility as women is to be fashionable and cute and a represent as a woman of God. You can be who God has called you to be. In the presence of God our worth is shaped. When you’re in God’s presence he begins to shape who you are and relabel you and labels of man strip away and we become who God has called us to be.”
God looks on the heart. Any woman of any age she encourages to feel comfortable in their own skin and strip away the things of the past. She says let God be the one who identifies you and allow him to show you your true identity. “When you read the word and are in his presence he begins to reveal to you who he is in you and that is a beautiful thing. If God is pleased that’s what it’s all about.”

LaRue Howard is a well-known fixture on the Orlando gospel music circuit. Leading praise and worship full time since 2001, LaRue says her goal is to pour into and teach other up and coming worship singers. She wants them to not make the same mistake that she did and that’s what kingdom building is all about!
I loved her look and her Natural hair looked great with hints of reddish brown highlights! LaRue let me know she was excited to be wearing flats during the concert, because she wanted to be comfortable and be able to give her all to the Lord. Her outfit was perfect with the flat boots she was wearing and she brought the house down with a great praise song!

DeLeon Richards-Sheffield
Many of you have heard of Deleon Richards- Sheffield from when she was a little girl singing. I can remember listening to her growing up and just being in awe of her small but powerful voice. I was all too excited when it came time to talk with her and she offered great fashion staples and the power of touching people through song!
“When you can open up your mouth and whatever comes out touches people it is a beautiful thing!”
Her makeup was beautiful, her fashion staples are a good pair of jeans a nice white tee and a great pair of kicks adding a pop of color is key!

Raised in a family that loves to sing, Keisha Cory grew up singing, and even shares the stage with her husband Trent Cory.Keisha’s let me know the key to not sweating off her makeup during performances is foundation primer and great waterproof mascara by L’Oreal. She loves a thick mascara brush because it gives the lashes a fuller and more dramatic look. Keisha’s trendy style did not go unnoticed she let me know that her go to fashion staples are trendy t-shirts, an awesome pair of leather pants finished off with a colorful blazer.

‘Fro Fashion Week Team

This year I received and opportunity to teach makeup classes with The Makeup Institute  June 2 & 3 and both days the classes  were a HUGE success! I still can’t believe that so many aspiring makeup artist came  to my workshops I was beyond ecstatic and ready to offer them everything I had. From the moment I stepped on stage to the very last person left the room I believed I shared every amount of information and experience that I have ever received!

June 3rd’s class was on Editorial Makeup Looks and this was a lot of fun teaching, the students had the opportunity to work on one another which was a  great way for them to learn hands on exactly what I was doing.

The look I did focused on a strong and sharp angled  liner with a bold lip, and of course flawless and  perfect skin. The ladies asked many great questions and they  loved my teaching style. I like to be hands on and honest in my critique  about creating and achieving certain makeup looks and I really wanted the students to get the most  out of the class.

I want to  thank The Makeup Institute for having me as their featured Makeup Artist, this was so much fun, as well as an awesome opportunity.  I don’t mind sharing what I have learned in this business, it has been what has helped me get to where I am today, and if I can help and share that  with others so they can do the same I’m definitely down for the cause!

Basketball has been crazy exciting this year from the Miami Heat and their winning streak to Kobe having to get surgery and now Tim Duncan all in the news for sending a Private Investigator to follow his wife… I mean it’s been crazy!  However at the end of the day it’s all about the Love of the Game!

This year I had the great opportunity to be  makeup artist  for sports commentators at ESPN and TNT!  I know right what a great  gig…I wish I could do  it everyday. I never thought my  2 favorite things Makeup & Basketball would ever come together but low and behold they did!

I was able to work with Lisa Salters of ESPN shown below as well as Jeff Van Gundy, Mike Breen

and David Aldrige from NBA on TNT.

Today is  eyebrow day, yes I did say eyebrow.Lately I have been working on perfecting and sculpting brows and the results have been beautiful! Often times I get complimented on my eyebrows and people asking me if I can do theirs. I of course say yes and pull out my dandy tweezers like a shot gun and tell t them to please  sit down.

So many  women don’t know how to get their perfect shape because they have either over tweezed or never had their brows done! So what I have been doing a lot of lately is saving ladies one brow at a time. Brow reshaping and sculpting is all about  getting  brows perfected to fit your  face shape.
