A Color Story…

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

So I am very happy and proud to say that LM has been featured in Bronze Magazine with photos by Darsha Photography .  I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this photo shoot  and the hard work we put into this project. It’s so awesome how this  entire process of this shoot   came together.  Our model  Imani Jayy is  super amazing  and  as you can see from the images photographer Shanai is on point! All of the makeup, hair and fashion styling  was done by me and I must say as tired as I was this day, I pulled the strength from some place other than myself and did what I do best!  I knew I wanted to see color, fun, and invigoration  for this shoot and it’s looks just that!  I kept the makeup soft and colorful a nice change from my usual smokey eye look. So much fun for me to do something different and it definitely shows!

Do you know sexy? or Graphitti??…. or Fafi???

web

“Born and raised in Toulouse France, Fafi’s strong presence in the graffiti and fine arts scene was first witnessed on her hometown walls in 1994. Back then, as she was painting and hustling, her sexy, funny, and sometimes aggressive girl characters made the whole world look and help kick-start a whole new graphic language; by exploring femininity through stereotypes, and using it to her advantage, she drew enormous attention and thus started to travel the world with thousands of Fafinettes in her brushes and paint cans. Europe, USA, Japan, Hong-Kong, the planet is a playground. And it’s only started.
Soon enough Sony would ask her to design a six-character toy set for the Time Capsules collection, an almost natural move for her three-dimensional measures. Other successful figurines would follow, as well as numerous expositions and collaborations with Colette, Adidas, LeSportSac, Coca-Cola, M.A.C cosmetics and countless press stories in the most prestigious magazines (ie. Vogue, Elle, The Face, XLR8R, Yen etc…).” – Fafi.net

Natural hair anyone?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Hey beauties! It’s your girl Meagan B coming at you today with some for sure FA-real-ness! Its an issue that I’m so passionate about, it gives me HEARTBURN, lol! There’s no secret about it, for so long black women have struggled with the issue on the texture of our hair. We have become conditioned to degrade our self-image with words like “good hair” and “bad hair”… why can’t we just have hair?? As many of you may know if you saw the pictures from the Tom Joyner Expo, my hair is 100% natural.
Meagan B
I’m so proud of that! Really I am, because it WHO I am….. come on now, our hair doesn’t grow out straight, lol! But don’t get it twisted!!!…. I will get a weave QUICK….. because it gives my hair a break and allows me to put it away for a while. I haven’t always been natural tho, and I don’t condemn anyone who is relaxed. For the majority of my life I was like many other women going to the salon for the 3-4 month touch- up with the “creamy crack” (relaxer) treatment!

The other day at work a lady paid me a compliment on my hair but I couldn’t appreciate it because of what she said about herself after. She said, ” I really like your hair, if my hair would curl up like that I would go natural too”. To which I replied “your hair will curl or wave up, but how would you know if you continue to relax?” To make a long story short, she proceeded to tell me that she knew she didn’t have the type of hair that could go natural because her roots are too “nappy” when they come in. *Lion growl* “GRRRRRR!!!!!!”

OMG are you kidding me??? We black women come in so many different shades of color that we embrace and we should also learn to embrace our many different hair textures too. At the end of the day, we have the most versatile hair!!! We can wear our hair in its natural state or we can blow dry and flat iron it straight. (Disclaimer: Always engage in healthy hair practices over look any day).

I am a part of a really cool hair forum called “K.I.S.S. (See LM faves). Its a site that promotes healthy and simple hair practices in women of color. With the permission of the women presented, I want to show the variety in black hair. These women are REAL….. au naturale….. and they are beautiful. I would like to encourage our readers to do some research and educate themselves on this issue…. we can have the best of both worlds! :) And lets all make sure to go see Chris Rocks Movie “Good Hair” when it hits theaters soon!
