In regard to fashion, I love that slogan: A MANS LIFE IN A WOMANS BODY. It suggests androgyny and I’m all about that, it’s in my makeup as an Aries. And since I mention makeup…. Lets get this show on the road. Makeup Artist James Kaliardos took these exact words and painted them on the models faces for the Diane Von Furstenberg collection during Fashion Week 2010.
I love it! Hard eyes with a shimmer, contoured face with a pale lip, hard expression with soft hair. BALANCE. This couldn’t possibly come at a better time for me, as a makeup artist I’ve been screaming lately that it’s time for makeup to evolve. Looks and eyeshadow styles are becoming dated… So its time to step it up. Go to your nearest makeup shop, grab a blending brush and paint on the darkest shimmery shadow you can find. If you call yourself fashion forward or are wanting to become more fashion aware and savvy then what better place to draw your inspiration than FASHION WEEK?
UHM, Yeah. And if andre Leon Talley is co signing your stuff… you have a dead give away you moving in the right direction. I know what MY makeup is gonna be looking like this Fall! Giving it to ya’ll early, Generating HYPE!

We said that we’re going to be doing more posts on makeup… and since I keep “having dreams” about this lip I figured I needed to speak up! GOOOODNESSSS GRACIOUS THIS RED IS BANANAS! Shoot, forget the song! I felt a “Get the Look” was in order. With Christmas and the new year vastly approaching I’m getting a lot of women who want red lips for holiday parties but are utterly terrified of the color. I for one, as a makeup artists feel that every woman in the whole world should have a sick red lipstick in her arsenal that she can whip out at a moments notice, that being said, I got your back ladies!
Cutting out the middle man and hop straight for the lip. Cherry and Brick lip pencils by M.A.C all day long with “Hollywood Red” Lipstick by Smashbox, finish off with M.A.C’s “Venetian” Lustre Glass.
Pointers
- Opt for softer shimmery eyes in warm golds or cool silvers unless your as daring as Ms Rihanna and want a smokey eye too.
- Don’t be afraid of your lip pencil. Wearing a combination of liner, lipstick, and lip gloss will last you a whole lot longer then wearing them individually.
- Lip primer will save your life!!! Sometimes red lipstick can feather a little so be sure to apply lip primer before going red.
- BE REALISTIC! It’s red ladies and it’s a high maintenece lip, IT IS WHAT IT IS. Your going to have to touch it up and your going to have to peep yourself in every morror to make sure its where u put it.
- … and Finally…. this one is important. DON’T ASSUME YOU CAN DO IT ALONE! Go to whatever makeup store or counter you can get too for help in choosing the right shade for your comfort level. Nothings worse then going to a drug store where you can’t try anything on, only to get home and hate it! Now your turned off from the idea all together. Makeup Artists exist for a reason, use them.
